Supporting case studies

In these pages, we examine public-record cases in which aggregate aims bear on particular lives.

We use them to ask how the Framework's account of flourishing and answerability meets events in the world: who benefits, who bears the costs and what an aggregate account leaves out. They are supporting illustrations, not proof of the Christian hypothesis. The conversation archives remain a separate record of attributed model claims.

Cases

  • Public purpose under COVID. Travel and isolation restrictions in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, examined as cases where aggregate aims bore on particular lives.

  • Engagement ranking and particular lives. Facebook's stated aims for News Feed ranking, whistleblower testimony about its effects, and the question of who bears costs that a ranking score does not capture.
